MRT-3 introduces dedicated student lanes and enhanced 50% fare discount

The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) announced the implementation of designated student lanes at all its stations, a move aimed at streamlining the flow of students availing of their fare discounts. This initiative directly responds to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to ensure smooth and efficient access for students utilizing discounted fares.

Effective immediately, students will benefit from a more convenient process. They only need to present their valid school IDs or registration forms at the designated student ticket counters. To further expedite service, students will simply list their names and provide their signatures, eliminating the need for lengthy form-filling.

This development comes on the heels of the DOTr’s recent increase in the student fare discount for Single Journey Tickets from 20% to a substantial 50%, also upon the directive of President Marcos. This enhanced discount, which will take effect on July 20, 2025, is designed to significantly alleviate transportation expenses for students as they return to school.

“We are committed to making public transportation more accessible and efficient for our students,” said MRT-3 GM Michael Capati. “These new student lanes, combined with the increased fare discount, reflect our dedication to supporting their educational journey as directed by President Marcos Jr.”
