Filipino seafarers from MV Magic Seas safely repatriated following Red Sea attack

Eleven more Filipino seafarers who endured an attack by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea aboard the MV Magic Seas arrived safely in the Philippines tonight, July 12, 2025. Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac personally welcomed the repatriated seafarers via flight SQ 0918 at NAIA Terminal 3.

The seafarers were among those onboard the MV Magic Seas when it was attacked on July 6. Following the incident, they were promptly accommodated in Djibouti, where their safety was confirmed before their repatriation.

Upon their arrival at NAIA, DMW Assistant Secretaries Maria Regina Galias and Francis Ron De Guzman joined Secretary Cacdac in extending a warm welcome. A multi-agency team was also on hand to provide immediate assistance, including representatives from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), the Department of Health (DOH) for health checks, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA). The repatriates also received training vouchers from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), offering opportunities for skill enhancement.

In line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., a comprehensive reintegration support program from a whole-of-government team awaits the seafarers. This initiative aims to ensure their smooth transition back into their families and communities, providing the necessary assistance for their recovery and future well-being.
