First Dalian train deployed on MRT-3 under Marcos Jr. administration

The first Dalian train successfully commenced operations on the MRT-3 line this Wednesday, marking a significant step towards improving public transportation for commuters under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The deployment follows extensive safety and security checks, prioritizing the well-being of passengers.

President Marcos Jr. highlighted the decade-long wait for the Dalian trains to become operational. “Since 2014, it’s only been [unavailable]. That’s why we went back and made sure what needs to be done to use the Dalian Train,” he stated, emphasizing the rigorous process undertaken to ensure the train’s readiness.

The President also announced an accelerated timeline for the safety clearance of the remaining Dalian trains. This initiative aims to provide more convenient and comfortable travel options for commuters shortly. “We will continue to look at the 48 Dalian Trains and find ways to use them because they have not been used for 10 years,” he added.

Once fully operational, these trains are expected to significantly increase the MRT-3’s capacity, with each train capable of serving 1,200 passengers per trip. President Marcos Jr. underscored the substantial benefit this will bring to daily commuters.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon reaffirmed the thoroughness of the safety inspections, stating that the deployed Dalian train underwent comprehensive safety and security clearance. He also confirmed that the checking of the remaining safety checklists for other Dalian trains will be expedited in line with the President’s directive.

“When safety checks on other Dalian trains are done, we can add it to the trains now, or replace it with other train sets that need to be fixed,” Secretary Dizon explained, outlining the plan to integrate the new trains into the existing fleet.

This deployment signifies the administration’s commitment to enhancing the efficiency and capacity of the country’s public transportation system, promising a more reliable and comfortable commuting experience for countless Filipinos.
