President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), convened the military’s mid-year command conference on Thursday at Camp Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. The high-level meeting served as a crucial platform to review the progress of the AFP’s ongoing operations and programs amidst evolving security landscapes.
During the conference, President Marcos Jr. received comprehensive briefings from top AFP officials regarding the nation’s internal and external security challenges. Discussions focused on strategic efforts and initiatives undertaken by the military to ensure peace and stability across the archipelago.
A highlight of the conference was President Marcos Jr.’s commendation of the AFP for its pivotal role in ensuring the peaceful and orderly conduct of the May 12, 2025 midterm elections. His recognition underscored the military’s dedication to upholding democratic processes and maintaining public safety during critical national events.
In a moment symbolizing deep national pride, the AFP presented “Kanluran,” a heartfelt anthem of Filipino patriotism, to the President. The AFP announced ambitious plans to disseminate the song widely, intending to play it in cinemas, schools, seminars, and various social gatherings nationwide, aiming to inspire a renewed sense of national identity and unity.
The command conference was attended by key figures, including AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. and other senior military officials and commanders. Also present were Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin, Department of National Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr., Senior Undersecretary Isidro Purisima of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU), and NTF-ELCAC Executive Director and Undersecretary Ernesto Torres Jr.
The successful conclusion of the conference reaffirms the government’s commitment to a strong and responsive Armed Forces, capable of addressing national security imperatives and fostering a secure environment for all Filipinos.
