DOT to strengthen collaboration with Tourism Congress of the Philippines

Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco today welcomed the leadership of the Tourism Congress of the Philippines (TCP) in a strategic meeting at the DOT Central Office, reinforcing the commitment to a collaborative approach for the accelerated development and revitalization of the Philippine tourism sector.

Led by TCP President Alan James Montenegro and key members of the Board of Trustees, the meeting served as a crucial platform to present significant proposals for enhanced cooperation. These initiatives include upcoming TCP regional events in Zamboanga (July 30) and Pampanga (August 28), culminating in the highly anticipated TCP Annual National Meeting in November 2025.

Discussions during the meeting primarily focused on strengthening the linkages and synergy between the activities of the DOT and the TCP. Highlights of the dialogue included the various successful efforts and initiatives facilitated by the TCP in different parts of the country, the continued revitalization of key destinations such as Cebu as a premier tourism hub with a strong push to improve tourism flights and increase arrivals of international travelers, as well as the resurgence of Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism nationwide.

Secretary Frasco underscored the DOT’s commitment to fostering robust partnerships with industry stakeholders. “Collaborative efforts with organizations like the TCP are essential to achieving our vision of a vibrant and globally competitive Philippine tourism industry,” she stated, emphasizing the shared goal of sustainable growth.

TCP President Montenegro reiterated the organization’s dedication to working hand-in-hand with the DOT. “The TCP is eager to continue its vital role in shaping policies and implementing initiatives that will drive sustainable growth and bring back the vigor of Philippine tourism,” he affirmed.

The TCP, created under Republic Act No. 9593 (Tourism Act of 2009), serves as the government’s primary consultative partner in tourism development. Its leadership, composed of top executives from diverse and key tourism sectors—including airlines, hotels, tour operators, education, and theme parks—ensures that TCP remains a pivotal voice in policy formulation and national industry direction.

Joining Secretary Frasco at the meeting were DOT Undersecretaries Shahlimar Hofer Tamano and Maria Rica Bueno, Assistant Secretary Czarina Zara-Loyola, and Head Executive Assistant Frances Jan Villarino. Representing TCP alongside President Montenegro were Vice President for Luzon Michael Jaey Albaña, Vice President for Visayas Celso Jimenez, Jr., Board Secretary Marilou Ampuan, Treasurer Margie Munsayac, Legal Counsel Mark Evidente, and Secretariat Kat Lapus.
