The Department of Tourism (DOT) today issued a strong advisory to tourists and tourism stakeholders in light of the ongoing effects of Tropical Storm “Crising” (international name: Wipha). The DOT emphasizes the paramount importance of safety and vigilance, urging all travelers to prioritize their well-being by closely monitoring official updates and coordinating with relevant authorities.
With widespread moderate to heavy rainfall expected across Metro Manila, parts of Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Ilocos Region, Cordillera, Bicol Region, and portions of the Visayas, the DOT advises travelers to check with their transport providers regarding the status of flights and ferry services before commencing any travel. These conditions may lead to flooding, landslides, and hazardous sea conditions, particularly in elevated and mountainous areas, as well as in areas already saturated by previous rainfall.
Tourism-related establishments are also enjoined to provide timely updates and comprehensive support to their guests, ensuring their safety and comfort during this period of inclement weather. Travelers and stakeholders are further advised to regularly monitor official bulletins from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and other relevant agencies for the latest safety updates and weather advisories.
The DOT, through its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee (DRRMCom), remains on heightened alert, diligently monitoring ground situations across all affected areas. As of 12:00 NN, July 21, 2025, situational reports from DOT Regional Offices confirm no casualties or injuries among travelers.
However, the storm has caused notable disruptions, particularly in Region IV-B (MIMAROPA) and Region II (Cagayan Valley and Batanes). In MIMAROPA, the DOT Regional Office has confirmed temporary suspensions of sea travel and multiple flight cancellations impacting various routes. A total of 1,373 tourists have been reported stranded in Palawan, with an additional two in Occidental Mindoro. The MIMAROPA Regional Office has proactively activated an online monitoring system for stranded tourists and is working in close coordination with Local Government Units (LGUs), the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and concerned tourism stakeholders to provide immediate assistance on the ground.
In Region II, 34 tourists were initially reported stranded in Batanes on July 18, 2025. Flight services in the region have been gradually resuming as of July 20, 2025.
The DOT assures the public of its continued commitment to safeguarding the welfare, safety, and comfort of travelers. The Department remains in close coordination with its Regional Offices, along with national and local government partners, to effectively manage the situation and provide necessary support.
