PH, UK partner to build transit hub connecting Education City in Taguig to Manila subway, North-South rail

A transit hub will be constructed at the 13-hectare Education City in Taguig City to link with the Metro Manila Subway and North-South Commuter Railway, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced.
In a statement, the DOTr said it signed a memorandum of understanding on July 16, 2025, with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the United Kingdom Embassy for the conduct of a feasibility for the development of a transit hub at the 13-hectare DepEd Complex in Taguig City, which will be linked to the two rail systems.
DOTr said the cost of the transit hub project will be determined once the feasibility study is done.
This is part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ease the daily travel of commuters—especially students—the Senate DepEd Transit Oriented Development (SEED) Project aims to create an Education City through a transport hub as well as green and education spaces built to encourage the use of public transport, walking and cycling.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the initiative will benefit future projects, which can be patterned after Project SEED. There was no mention as to the cost of the project and the role of the British government in this undertaking.
“It is important for the entire country because this project will pave the way for better projects in the future—not only transportation projects but also education projects,” Secretary Dizon said during the Project Signing with Education Secretary Sonny Angara and British Ambassador to the Philippines Laure Beaufils.
The transport chief stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration and partnerships with other nations as “our partners will be critical to the success of very important projects.”
For his part, Secretary Angara said the SEED Project will be a catalyst for progress, especially in the Philippine transport sector.
“This project will have a same catalytic effect not only on Taguig but definitely Philippine transportation. We have the DOTr to shepherd and speed up this project,” Secretary Angara said.
