DOE implements price freeze on LPG and kerosene in calamity-stricken areas

The Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the immediate implementation of a price freeze on household liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in cylinders (11 kg and below) and kerosene products in several areas that have declared a state of calamity (SOC). This measure is a direct response to the severe impact of heavy rains, exacerbated by the southwest monsoon (Habagat) and Typhoons Crising and Dante.

The State of Calamity has been officially declared in the following areas:

  • Macabebe, Pampanga
  • Culasi, Antique
  • Mangatarem, Pangasinan
  • Minalin, Pampanga
  • Entire Province of Pampanga
  • Sasmuan, Pampanga

The declaration of a State of Calamity in these regions triggers an automatic price freeze on necessities, including LPG and kerosene, as mandated by Republic Act No. 7581, also known as the Price Act. This aims to prevent profiteering and ensure that essential goods remain accessible to affected communities during the recovery period.

The price freeze will remain valid for fifteen (15) days from the date of the declaration of the State of Calamity in each respective area. The DOE, in coordination with local government units and other relevant agencies, will closely monitor the market to ensure strict compliance with this directive.

The public is urged to report any instances of overpricing or hoarding to the appropriate authorities.
