Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon conducted a thorough inspection of the primary runway at Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) to evaluate the ongoing repair works following its temporary closure on July 12 due to damaged pavement.
During his visit, Secretary Dizon issued a clear directive to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to implement all necessary measures to prevent any recurrence of such incidents. This directive aligns directly with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s paramount instruction to prioritize the safety and convenience of air travelers.
“The President’s directive is clear. We must always ensure the safety of our passengers. Therefore, it is unacceptable for the airport runway to peel off again,” Secretary Dizon stated emphatically.
The inspection underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the structural integrity and operational safety of vital aviation infrastructure, thereby upholding the highest standards of service for the traveling public. The DOTr, MCIAA, and CAAP are working collaboratively to expedite the repairs while ensuring long-term durability and safety.
