The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) today confirmed that nine Filipino crew members of the vessel MV Eternity C are currently in the custody of Houthi forces. This confirmation follows an incident involving the vessel, which also resulted in the tragic deaths of three other Filipino seafarers.
Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac clarified the latest figures: “We want to clarify the current figures: there are three reported fatalities—not four, as earlier speculated—and one is still missing. This brings the total accounted to 12. The remaining nine (9) seafarers have been confirmed to be in the custody of Houthi forces, based on our coordination with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).”
Secretary Cacdac also reported that eight other Filipino seafarers from the MV Eternity C have been safely repatriated and have since been reunited with their families in the Philippines. These repatriated individuals have received comprehensive assistance and reintegration support from the Philippine government.
“Our monitoring efforts continue, and our support to the families is sustained. The safety and repatriation of all our seafarers remain our top priority,” Secretary Cacdac emphasized.
The DMW is working closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs to ensure the safety, well-being, and eventual safe return of those still in the custody of Houthi forces. This coordinated effort is in direct accordance with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure no Filipino is left behind.
Since the incident, the DMW has maintained constant communication with the affected families, providing them with regular updates, psychosocial support, and assistance in accessing vital government services. The department reiterated its commitment to supporting these families through the crisis, ensuring they receive continuous assistance as the government works towards a resolution.
