DMW AKSYON Fund delivers crucial support to overseas Filipino workers

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) today announced the significant positive impact of its AKSYON Fund, a comprehensive support system that has provided vital assistance to numerous Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) worldwide. DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac highlighted the unwavering support of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in bolstering the fund’s capabilities.

The DMW AKSYON Fund is designed as a holistic safety net for OFWs, offering a wide array of services including legal assistance, medical aid, financial support, repatriation services, and emergency assistance. This multi-faceted approach ensures that OFWs facing various challenges abroad receive timely and effective intervention.

Secretary Cacdac, speaking during the 2025 Post-State of the Nation Address (SONA) Discussions in San Juan City, emphasized the President’s consistent directive to strengthen the fund. “President Marcos Jr. has twice, on Labor Day, instructed us to enhance the AKSYON Fund, which is a legal assistance fund, and to expand our aid for cases abroad,” Cacdac stated.

The fund’s impact is evident in several high-profile cases. Secretary Cacdac cited a remarkable instance in Saudi Arabia where an OFW on death row was successfully acquitted thanks to the crucial legal and financial backing provided by the AKSYON Fund. Similarly, in Qatar, Filipinos who were charged with illegal assembly were not only freed but also had their travel bans lifted, allowing them to return home. The fund has also been instrumental in assisting OFWs entangled in various criminal and labor cases in Kuwait.

Beyond legal battles, the AKSYON Fund extends its reach to urgent medical and financial needs. Recently, the Philippine government, through the fund’s support, successfully repatriated a Filipino from Qatar who was suffering from stage 4 cancer, ensuring they received critical care back home. “We also assist patients by covering their hospital bills when insurance cannot,” Cacdac added, underscoring the fund’s role in alleviating the financial burden of medical emergencies.

The DMW reiterates its commitment to protecting the welfare and rights of all OFWs, ensuring they have access to the necessary support in times of need. The AKSYON Fund, a testament to the government’s dedication, continues to be a beacon of hope for Filipino migrant workers globally.
