Pres. Marcos Jr. to undertake state visit to India, deepening strategic and economic ties

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will undertake a state visit to the Republic of India from August 4 to 8, 2025, upon the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The visit is part of the year-long commemoration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, which were established in November 1949.

In a press briefing, Department of Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Evangeline T. Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq highlighted the significance of the visit. “This visit aims to further strengthen the Philippines-India partnership by proactively engaging in all aspects of our relations to seize opportunities for greater cooperation in security, economy, science and technology, and people-to-people ties,” she said.

The President’s itinerary includes key engagements in both New Delhi and Bangalore, India’s renowned “Silicon Valley.” A high-level delegation, including Foreign Affairs Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., and Trade and Industry Secretary Christina Roque, among others, will accompany him.

Key Highlights of the State Visit:

  • High-Level Meetings: President Marcos Jr. is scheduled to meet with Indian President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Bharatiya Janata Party President Jagat Prakash Nadda to discuss bilateral and regional issues.
  • Economic Diplomacy: The President will lead business forums in both New Delhi and Bangalore, with a special focus on attracting Indian investments in the Philippines. Several Indian CEOs have already expressed interest in meeting with the President to finalize investment plans.
  • Innovation and Technology: The visit to Bangalore, India’s tech hub, underscores the Philippines’ commitment to exploring collaboration in science and technology.
  • Community Engagement: President Marcos Jr. will meet with the Filipino community in India to reaffirm the government’s commitment to their welfare.

The state visit is a significant step in the Philippines’ strategy to open up future possibilities with India, recognizing its growing economic and strategic importance.
