Manila ports maintain optimal yard utilization rates, ensuring efficient trade flow

As of August 4, 2025, key operational data from the Philippines’ busiest ports indicates robust and efficient management of yard space, crucial for the seamless flow of international trade. The Manila International Container Port (MICP) reports a yard utilization rate of 73.36%, while the Port of Manila (POM) stands at 64.49%. These figures reflect the current usage of available yard space at each location, underscoring effective capacity management and sustained operational efficiency.

The Manila International Container Port, a vital gateway for Philippine trade, continues to demonstrate its commitment to optimizing its facilities. A 73.36% yard utilization rate suggests a healthy balance between handling high volumes of cargo and maintaining sufficient space for ongoing operations, preventing congestion, and ensuring swift turnaround times for vessels and trucks.

Similarly, the Port of Manila’s 64.49% yard utilization rate highlights its capacity to accommodate current cargo demands while retaining considerable flexibility. This rate indicates a well-managed environment that can efficiently process imports and exports, supporting the national economy and supply chain stability.

“These utilization rates are a testament to our continuous efforts in optimizing port operations and infrastructure,” said PPA. “Maintaining optimal yard space is critical for preventing bottlenecks, enhancing productivity, and ensuring that goods move efficiently through our ports. We are committed to upholding these standards to support the dynamic needs of our stakeholders and the broader economy.”

The efficient management of yard utilization is paramount for national logistics, impacting everything from import costs to export competitiveness. By keeping these rates within optimal ranges, the ports contribute significantly to reducing dwell times, improving cargo fluidity, and enhancing the overall supply chain resilience of the Philippines.
