DOTr to address high airfares and expand Siargao airport to boost tourism

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) today announced a joint effort to tackle the high cost of air travel to Siargao, a premier tourist destination in the Philippines.

The two agencies will meet with airline companies to find an immediate solution to the issue, which has been a concern for both local and international travelers.

In a move to improve tourist experience, the DOTr also confirmed the expansion of the Siargao Airport passenger terminal building. This project aims to provide a more comfortable and efficient travel experience for the increasing number of visitors to the island.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon stated that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has instructed the DOTr to continue prioritizing the upgrade of regional airports across the country. These infrastructure projects are a key part of the government’s strategy to boost tourism and stimulate local economies.
