Transportation and Valenzuela officials launch coordinated effort to address flooding

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon and Valenzuela City Mayor Wes Gatchalian inspected the Paso de Blas creek, kicking off a major initiative to clean and dredge 11 key waterways in the city. The project follows a direct order from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to address persistent flooding that has caused significant traffic disruptions on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and surrounding communities.

President Marcos Jr. ordered the “non-stop and simultaneous” clearing of the creeks to prevent future traffic congestion and stranded motorists, particularly during typhoon season and the southwest monsoon.

“The President has prioritized the non-stop and simultaneous cleaning and dredging of these creeks in Valenzuela due to the major inconvenience the flooding causes to our commuters,” said Secretary Dizon during the inspection.

Secretary Dizon emphasized that this initiative highlights the importance of a unified approach. “Resolving flooding in our communities requires strong cooperation between the national government, local governments, and even the private sector,” he added.

This joint effort aims to enhance the city’s flood resilience, ensuring smoother traffic flow and improved safety for residents and motorists.
