Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Sharon S. Garin highlighted the indispensable role of the private sector in achieving the nation’s energy objectives during a recent meeting with the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) – Energy Subcommittee.
“The Philippine Energy Plan (PEP) can only be realized through strong partnerships with the private sector,” Secretary Garin stated. She emphasized that collaboration is key to building a resilient and sustainable energy future for the country.
Secretary Garin expressed her full support for MAP’s 3-year actionable roadmap, which aims to create a more cost-effective, reliable, and sustainable energy landscape. The roadmap directly aligns with the goals of the PEP, and its successful implementation will be crucial for the country’s energy security.
Discussions between the Secretary and the subcommittee also focused on the government’s commitment to supporting research and development in renewable energy. Additionally, the meeting explored strategies to encourage the private sector’s wider adoption of net metering and electric vehicles (EVs), both of which are vital to modernizing the country’s energy infrastructure and reducing its carbon footprint.
