Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, on Monday, met with Negros Occidental 6th District Representative Mercedes Alvarez and Sipalay City Mayor Maria Gina Lizares to discuss national and local priorities aimed at strengthening the province’s tourism sector. The meeting focused on identifying new development opportunities and fostering collaboration to enhance the region’s appeal as a top tourist destination.
Secretary Frasco highlighted that under the Marcos Administration, the DOT is committed to advancing key initiatives, including improving regional connectivity, promoting sustainable tourism practices, and developing essential infrastructure. She specifically mentioned the upcoming construction of Tourist Rest Areas (TRA) in Sipalay City and Kabankalan City, which will provide convenient and comfortable facilities for travelers.
Representative Alvarez, a vocal supporter of tourism and infrastructure development in her district, including the Kabankalan Domestic Airport and better access roads to key attractions, affirmed her dedication to partnering with the DOT. The goal of this collaboration is to generate more livelihood and economic opportunities for local communities throughout Negros Occidental.
Other DOT officials in attendance included Undersecretary Shahlimar Hofer Tamano, Assistant Secretary Judilyn Quiachon, Director Glenn Albert Ocampo, Director Arlene Alipio, and DOT Western Visayas and concurrent Negros Island Region Regional Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez.
