Pres. Marcos Jr. urges reflection and unity on Ninoy Aquino Day

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. issued a message on the commemoration of Ninoy Aquino Day, calling on the nation to reflect on its shared history and embrace a future defined by unity and responsible governance.

In his statement, President Marcos emphasized that the observance of this day is an invitation to govern with “sobriety, conscience, and foresight.” He noted that with time, the country can now approach this historical event with greater clarity and a deeper perspective.

“History invites reflection more than reaction, and from that reflection arises a clearer understanding of civic duty,” the President said.

A Call to Reconciliation and Principled Leadership

President Marcos highlighted that this commemoration signals the Philippines’ readiness to pursue unity and reconciliation. He noted that upholding leadership that strives toward wholeness and reconciliation is crucial for the nation’s progress.

“Through this observance, we advance the work of statecraft: disciplined, steady, and shaped by the enduring imperative to choose peace above quarrel, and dignity beyond differences,” he added.

Acknowledging History’s Enduring Lessons

The President also spoke about the profound transformation the Philippines has undergone through public discourse on power, memory, and citizenship. He stressed that history should be seen not as a final judgment, but as a continuous source of instruction for leaders.

“As someone raised within a political tradition formed by these moments, I have come to understand that history offers less final judgment than continuing instruction,” said President Marcos. He concluded his message by underscoring that the lessons of the past only hold meaning when they are applied to modern governance and embedded within the nation’s institutions.
