FAST Logistics showcases commitment to sustainability at PISM general membership meeting

FAST Logistics Group, the Philippines’ leading provider of end-to-end logistics solutions, recently showcased its comprehensive Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives at the 3rd General Membership Meeting of the Philippine Institute for Supply Management (PISM). The event, held at The Westin Manila, centered on the theme “Enhancing Sustainability in Supply Chain” and brought together industry leaders to discuss strategies for creating more resilient and eco-friendly operations.

FAST’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) Leo Sacamos Jr. addressed the gathering, emphasizing the critical importance of integrating sustainability into core business strategies. He detailed the company’s four key ESG pillars: promoting customer satisfaction and well-being, fostering a safe and empowered workplace, transitioning to a low-carbon economy, and ensuring strong governance and risk assessment.

“Providing Logistics Para Sa Bayan means building a supply chain that serves not just businesses, but also communities and the environment,” said Sacamos. “Every step we take toward sustainability is a step toward a better Philippines.”

Driving Green Logistics

A central focus of FAST’s ESG strategy is the reduction of energy consumption and carbon emissions through innovative and efficient logistics solutions. The company’s efforts include:

Renewable Energy Integration: Two buildings at the FAST Logistics Hub in Cabuyao, Laguna, are powered entirely by renewable energy. One of these facilities was recognized by multinational company Kenvue as one of the few 100% renewable-powered distribution centers in the Asia-Pacific region. Additionally, solar panels have been installed at the ColdChain Hub in Imus, Cavite, to further enhance energy efficiency and reduce operational costs.

Electric Vehicle Deployment: FAST has deployed a fleet of fully electric vehicles (EVs) powered by solar energy, leading to significant reductions in carbon emissions. These EVs are equipped with GPS and AI-powered dashcams to ensure efficient and safe product transportation.

Smart Operations and Route Optimization: The company leverages a proprietary Transport Management System (TMS), developed by its in-house Solutions Engineers, to automate truckload planning and optimize delivery routes. This technology reduces the number of trucks on the road and decreases overall fuel consumption.

Sacamos underscored the logistics industry’s responsibility to lead in environmental stewardship. “As logistics remains a significant contributor to carbon emissions, it is our responsibility to lead the way in reducing environmental impact through renewable energy, electric vehicles, and smarter operations,” he stated.

He also highlighted the crucial role of data and analytics, noting that real-time tracking, predictive maintenance, and AI-powered route optimization enable FAST to maximize efficiency while minimizing its environmental footprint. “Through data, innovation, and collaboration, we can make Philippine logistics a global example of how efficiency and sustainability go hand in hand,” Sacamos concluded.

For its pioneering efforts in sustainability, FAST Logistics Group was honored with the Sustainability and Green Logistics Award for Logistics Providers at the inaugural 2024 SCMAP Supply Chain Excellence Awards.
