PNR enhances emergency preparedness with specialized rescue training

The Philippine National Railways (PNR) is strengthening its commitment to public safety and operational resilience through a series of specialized training programs for its employees. This initiative, in line with presidential directives, aims to ensure that PNR staff are well-equipped to handle emergencies and potential service disruptions.

Recently, 17 male employees from PNR’s security, operations, and maintenance departments completed an intensive Rope Rescue Technician Training. The program was a collaborative effort between the PNR’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Committee and the San Juan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO). The training included a practical simulation at the Palicpic Ayungin Bridge in Calauan, Laguna, the tallest railway bridge in the area, providing a realistic environment for participants to hone their skills.

In a separate but related effort, 16 male PNR personnel participated in a specialized course on Structural Collapse and Rescue Operations, which also included Retrieval Operations as part of the Management of the Deceased and Missing (MDM) Persons component of disaster response. The training was led by High Threat Emergency Care (HTEC) Instructor Ruel S. Kapunan.

Atty. Rochelle Andrea B. Rizada-Templora, PNR Administrative and Finance Department Manager and Chairperson of the DRRM Committee, expressed her gratitude to the San Juan City DRRMO. “We are deeply appreciative of the San Juan City DRRMO for providing our team with these critical training opportunities,” she stated. “These programs are vital for improving our employees’ knowledge and skills in rescue operations and disaster resilience, ensuring we can effectively protect our commuters and personnel.”

These training initiatives underscore PNR’s dedication to building a prepared and resilient workforce, capable of responding to a wide range of emergencies and ensuring the continued safety and reliability of its railway services.
