PH manufacturers lash out at use of substandard materials in flood control projects

Domestic manufacturers warned the use of substandard materials—such as steel, cement, among others—in flood control infrastructure, whether due to smuggling or weak enforcement of standards, directly undermines public safety and erodes trust.

In a statement issued by Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI) Chairman Beth Lee, local producers said the supply chain breaches expose structural vulnerabilities, compromise infrastructure integrity, and disadvantage compliant producers.

They also trigger market distortion, heighten structural risk, and enable procurement corruption—undermining both public confidence and long-term resilience.

FPI members adhere to Philippine National Standards (PNS), and the Federation continues to champion policies that enforce strict quality standards across the industry.

Strengthening border controls, certification systems, and procurement protocols is essential to protect jobs, ensure product integrity, and uphold industrial credibility .
