Manila Multipurpose Terminal strengthens safety and efficiency with comprehensive staff training

The Manila Multipurpose Terminal (MMT), the Philippines’ premier international hub for bulk and breakbulk cargo, has announced the completion of a specialized training program for its operations personnel, reinforcing its commitment to safety and operational excellence. The training, focused on safe ship crane maintenance and cargo watch/winch operations, is a key component of MMT’s ongoing initiative to develop a highly skilled and multi-talented workforce.

The program was developed and conducted in partnership with the Internship Navigation Training Center, Inc. (ISNTC), a recognized leader in maritime training. The curriculum was designed to provide a deep understanding of safety protocols and practical skills essential for modern port operations.

Training sessions began with a strong theoretical foundation, covering critical topics such as:

Workplace hazards and risk mitigation.

Employee responsibilities under strict safety guidelines.

Safe operating procedures for all equipment.

Following the classroom instruction, participants transitioned to practical simulations. These hands-on exercises allowed staff to apply their knowledge in a controlled environment, focusing on real-world scenarios that included:

Basic crane operation techniques.

Proper rope and sling handling for secure cargo movement.

Mastery of standard hand signals for clear communication between operators and ground teams.

“At MMT, the safety of our people and the efficiency of our operations are paramount,” said a company spokesperson. “This training with ISNTC is an investment in our team and our future. By equipping our personnel with advanced skills and a strong safety mindset, we are not only enhancing our ability to handle cargo but also upholding the highest standards of safety for everyone at our terminal.”

MMT anticipates that the enhanced skills gained from the training will lead to a significant improvement in cargo handling efficiency and a further reduction in workplace incidents, solidifying its position as a safe and reliable partner in the Philippines’ supply chain.
