Yard utilization rates reported at Manila ports

The latest data on container yard utilization at the country’s two largest ports highlight current capacity and operational conditions:

Manila International Container Port (MICP): 81.07% yard utilization

Port of Manila (South Harbor): 63.99% yard utilization

Yard utilization measures the percentage of container yard space currently in use, serving as a key indicator of port activity and efficiency. Utilization rates above 80% typically reflect heightened levels of cargo movement, which can lead to operational congestion if not managed proactively.

The Manila International Container Port (MICP), one of the busiest gateways for imports and exports in the Philippines, continues to operate at a high yard utilization rate of 81.07%, underscoring strong trade flows and vessel activity. Meanwhile, the Port of Manila (South Harbor) reported a yard utilization rate of 63.99%, showing a relatively balanced flow of cargo that allows for smoother handling operations.

Port authorities emphasize that maintaining yard utilization within manageable levels is critical to sustaining efficient logistics, avoiding bottlenecks, and supporting the timely release of goods. The figures will guide ongoing efforts to enhance port operations, ensure smooth cargo clearance, and support the supply chain needs of industries nationwide.

“These utilization rates provide a snapshot of how our ports are performing and where operational attention may be needed,” a port operations spokesperson said. “We remain committed to balancing trade facilitation with efficiency and service reliability.”

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), in collaboration with port operators, continues to monitor yard space usage and implement measures to improve cargo flow, optimize container handling, and prevent potential congestion during peak periods.
