Bloomberry Cultural Foundation, Inc. (BCFI), the social development arm of Solaire Resort and Casino, announces a significant milestone in its Medical Scholarship Program, with 20 of its scholars earning their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees. This first batch of graduates represents a crucial step in the foundation’s mission to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in the Philippines.
Academic Excellence and Continued Support
Of the 20 nursing graduates, a remarkable 11 scholars achieved Latin honors, and eight received special awards for their academic and extracurricular achievements. This includes eight Cum Laude honorees from West Visayas State University and three from Batangas State University, with Francis Theresa San Antonio graduating Magna Cum Laude.
BCFI, in partnership with Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc., is now assisting these new graduates with a grant to cover their Board Review Examination fees, ensuring they are well-prepared to enter the professional workforce.
Expanding Community Impact
In addition to the Medical Scholarship Program, BCFI has also sponsored caregiving courses for residents in Solaire’s host communities. A total of 44 residents from Barangay Tambo, Paranaque, and 25 from Barangay Bagong Pag-Asa, Quezon City, completed the program and have since passed their TESDA accreditation. These initiatives highlight BCFI’s broader commitment to community empowerment and skills development.
Addressing the Healthcare Brain Drain
BCFI’s Medical Scholarship Program was launched to combat the “brain drain” of Filipino doctors, nurses, and other healthcare practitioners who often seek opportunities abroad. The program aims to produce 763 graduates over five years by partnering with 13 prestigious universities nationwide, including UP Manila, St. Luke’s Medical Center, and West Visayas State University. This collaborative effort is essential for strengthening the local healthcare system and ensuring a skilled professional workforce for the future.
