LTO and PNP crack down on counterfeit IDs to promote digital government services

In a concerted effort to combat the proliferation of fraudulent identification cards and streamline official transactions, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) is intensifying its collaboration with the Philippine National Police – Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG). This initiative, following the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., is aimed at encouraging the public to use the official eGov application for secure and legitimate transactions.

Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez has instructed the LTO to continue its relentless pursuit of individuals involved in the illegal sale and production of fake IDs, including driver’s licenses.

“This is a significant step forward in our fight against cybercrime. We are committed to putting an end to the creation and distribution of fake licenses,” stated LTO Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza during a press conference held with Valenzuela City Mayor Wes Gatchalian and PNP-ACG Director Bernard R. Yang. “We will not stop until those behind these illegal activities are brought to justice.”

The press conference also highlighted a recent success from this joint operation. The PNP-ACG presented two suspects who were apprehended in Valenzuela City this Monday for manufacturing fake IDs. Law enforcement officials seized a variety of counterfeit identification cards, printers, and other equipment used to produce the fraudulent documents.

In addition to these enforcement efforts, the LTO announced that it is actively exploring ways to enhance the security features of official licenses to make them more difficult to replicate. This move is part of a broader strategy to protect the integrity of government-issued documents and ensure the public can conduct transactions with confidence.
