Philippines reinforces ASEAN-UK economic partnership

The Bureau of Customs (BOC), in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Finance (DOF), participated in a key meeting on August 29, 2025, with Cadmus UK International as part of the Philippine Trade Facilitation Committee (PTFC). The meeting focused on advancing the ASEAN-UK Economic Integration Programme (EIP), a five-year initiative launched in 2024 to strengthen economic ties between the United Kingdom and ASEAN member states.

Key Discussion Points and Philippine Commitment

Led by Assistant Secretary Dakila Elteen M. Napao, the discussions centered on aligning the Philippines’ trade and economic strategies with broader ASEAN priorities. Key topics included regulatory reform, open trade, and financial services. Specific focus was given to opportunities in digital trade, customs modernization, support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and women’s economic empowerment. Participants also explored ways to streamline trade practices to enhance transparency and efficiency throughout the region.

As the current country coordinator for ASEAN-UK Economic Relations, the Philippines plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful implementation of the ASEAN-UK Economic Cooperation Work Plan and other key agreements. This position highlights the country’s commitment to fostering regional economic growth and cooperation.

Under the leadership of Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, the BOC reaffirmed its dedication to trade facilitation and digital transformation. This commitment ensures the Philippines remains responsive to evolving international standards and regional integration efforts, solidifying its role as a key player in the ASEAN-UK economic dialogue.
