The port operations of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) have demonstrated exceptional performance, exceeding their year-on-year revenue targets with ₱1.023 billion in earnings from January to July 2025. This achievement marks a 4.8% increase compared to the ₱976 million recorded during the same period in 2024.
According to SBMA Senior Deputy Administrator for Port Operations Ronnie R. Yambao, the growth is largely attributed to a significant rise in cargo traffic. “We saw an 18% increase in imported containerized food and agricultural products, and a 2.6% increase in exports,” Yambao stated. “This, along with a remarkable 437% surge in dry bulk cargo like rice and an 18% increase in timber handling, highlights the port’s growing role as a vital trade hub.”
The impressive financial results also stem from strategic management, efficient port operations, and adjusted miscellaneous tariffs. SBMA Chairman and Administrator Eduardo Jose L. Aliño’s leadership has been key to this success.
Strategic Vision and Future Projections
The SBMA Port Operations team is committed to sustained growth, with ambitious long-term goals. They project a total revenue of ₱1.75 billion by the end of 2025, which is a 2.77% increase over the ₱1.706 billion earned in 2024. The long-term vision includes generating ₱3 billion by 2030 and ₱10 billion by 2050.
“These goals will be realized through new policies approved by the SBMA Board of Directors, aggressive global marketing campaigns to increase trade volume, and forging new alliances with international ports,” Yambao explained. The port’s expansion projects and green initiatives, such as the newly funded ₱100 million Shore Power Connection Facility, align with the national government’s push for high-impact investments through the Luzon Economic Corridor.
Further bolstering the port’s future is the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) support for the Subic-Clark-Manila-Batangas Railway Project, which is being implemented with the assistance of the USAID and other financial institutions. This infrastructure will enhance connectivity and logistics, solidifying the Subic Bay port’s position as a premier gateway.
The success of the Port Operations is a collaborative effort, led by the dedicated team under Senior Deputy Administrator Ronnie Yambao, which includes Deputy Administrator for Ports Atty. Martin Kristoffer Roman, Seaport Department General Manager Jerome M. Martinez, and Officer-in-Charge of the Trade Facilitation and Compliance Department Joy Quito.
