PPA provides temporary shelter for stranded Badjao community

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), in a compassionate gesture, coordinated with North Port and is providing temporary shelter and essential services to a group of 162 Badjao individuals, including 20 minors, who were stranded in Manila after their ferry experienced a technical issue.

The group was heading to their home provinces after the Christmas and New Year holidays when their 2GO vessel broke down. In response, the PPA is allowing them to use the North Harbor parking area as a temporary waiting area.

North Port Manager Aurora Mendoza of PMO NCR North stated, “Every year, we anticipate the return of the Badjao after the holiday season. While their ship is being repaired, we are accommodating them inside the pier and ensuring their safety and security.”

In a joint effort, the PPA is providing access to water, toilet facilities, and a charging station. Additionally, 2GO has provided food packs to the stranded passengers.

The PPA is working closely with 2GO to ensure the community can resume their journey home as soon as possible.
