PPA issues advisory on stranded passengers due to Typhoon “OPONG”

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) today released an advisory confirming the number of passengers currently stranded across various ports as of 6:00 AM, September 28, 2025, due to widespread trip cancellations. The cancellations are a direct result of the inclement weather conditions brought about by Tropical Depression “OPONG” (international name: Bualoi).

The PPA is actively monitoring the situation across all affected Port Management Offices (PMOs) and coordinating with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and other relevant agencies to ensure the safety and welfare of all stranded individuals.

While the number of affected travelers is fluctuating as sea conditions and localized weather alerts change, PPA personnel remain on high alert, providing necessary assistance, including food, water, and temporary shelter within port facilities, in line with the agency’s disaster preparedness protocols.

Advisory to the Public

The PPA strongly advises all intending sea travelers to contact their respective shipping lines and ferry operators before proceeding to any port. This precautionary step is crucial to confirm the status of their scheduled trips and avoid unnecessary inconvenience or prolonged waits at the port terminals.

“Our top priority is the safety of the commuting public,” said a PPA spokesperson. “We understand the inconvenience this causes, and we are working tirelessly with our partners to ensure that all stranded passengers are attended to comfortably until sea travel is cleared for resumption.”

The public is urged to closely monitor official weather updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and maritime safety advisories from the PCG.

The PPA will issue updates as soon as sea travel resumes in the affected areas.
