The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has issued an extension of the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) establishing a no-fly zone near the Taal Volcano due to ongoing volcanic activity. This measure is a proactive step to ensure the safety of air travel in the region.
The extended NOTAM is currently in effect from October 3, 2025, at 8:10 a.m. PST until October 4, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. PST.
The restriction imposes vertical limits from the surface up to 11,000 feet above sea level. This prohibits aircraft from entering the specified airspace surrounding the volcano. Flight operators and pilots are strongly advised to adhere strictly to this advisory and avoid flying near the Taal Volcano, which currently remains under Alert Level 1 by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). The low-level alert signifies a slight but persistent risk of sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, which can pose a danger to aircraft.
Flight Disruptions Due to Typhoon Paolo
In a separate development, Typhoon Paolo has caused significant disruption to domestic air travel. A total of 16 flights have been cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions brought by the typhoon.
The affected routes include key domestic connections between Manila and the Northern Luzon destinations of Tuguegarao, Cauayan, and Laoag.
Affected passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines directly for the latest updates on their flight status, as well as for assistance with rebooking or refund options.
CAAP Assurance and Coordination
CAAP assures the public that it is maintaining a vigilant watch over both the volcanic and weather situations. The authority is in constant and close coordination with all concerned agencies, including PHIVOLCS, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), airline operators, and airport authorities.
“Our paramount concern is the safety, security, and welfare of the traveling public and aircrew,” a CAAP spokesperson stated. “We will continue to provide timely updates and work diligently with our partners to minimize disruptions while upholding the highest standards of aviation safety.”
Further updates will be released as the situations concerning the Taal Volcano and Typhoon Paolo evolve.
