CAAP champions biometrics and digital identity for seamless Philippine air travel

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has reaffirmed its dedication to modernizing the nation’s air travel experience, setting a goal for seamless, secure, and contactless travel across the country by 2025.

During the recent Aviation Stakeholder Dialogue held at Hilton Manila, Newport World Resorts on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, CAAP Director General retired LTGEN Raul Del Rosario AFP (Ret) threw his support behind implementing a biometrics solution compliant with the IATA OneID standard.

The dialogue, hosted by UltraPass, served as a critical platform to align the aviation sector on adopting this unified digital identity system. This initiative is designed to enable a seamless, secure, and contactless passenger journey, significantly enhancing the travel experience from check-in to boarding.

IATA OneID: The Future of Travel

The IATA OneID standard establishes a unified digital identity, allowing passengers to move through the airport using their biometrics without the need to repeatedly present physical documents.

“Our commitment to implementing an IATA OneID-compliant system is a major step toward future-proofing Philippine aviation,” said Director General Del Rosario. “This effort ensures coordinated execution among airlines, airports, and government agencies, which will ultimately position the Philippines as a regional pioneer in digital travel transformation.”

Modernization and Safety Remain Paramount

This modernization drive is part of CAAP’s continuous effort to automate and enhance Philippine aviation while strictly maintaining the highest standards of regulatory safety and security. The agency views the adoption of digital identities as a key component of a more efficient and secure air travel ecosystem.
