CAAP confirms all national airports are operational following magnitude 7.6 Davao Oriental earthquake

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) confirmed that all 85 airports under its jurisdiction remain fully operational and structurally stable following the magnitude 7.6 earthquake that struck off the coast of Davao Oriental in the early hours of Friday morning.

Initial, rigorous site assessments conducted by CAAP engineering teams nationwide indicate that the country’s crucial aviation infrastructure sustained no major structural damage from the powerful seismic event. The primary concern of the Authority remains the safety and security of all passengers, airport personnel, and flight crews.

CAAP Director General Capt. Manuel F. Antonio reported that a specific assessment at Dipolog Airport (DPL) revealed only minor, superficial cracks in the external walls of the logistics and cargo building. Immediate, in-depth structural integrity checks are underway at Dipolog to ensure the long-term stability of the facility, though these findings have had no material impact on current flight operations or passenger safety protocols.

As a precautionary measure immediately following the tremor, two commercial flights destined for Davao International Airport (DVO) were safely rerouted:

GAP2813 (Manila–Davao): Diverted to Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA).

CEB963 (Manila–Davao): Diverted to General Santos International Airport (Gensan).

CAAP is coordinating closely with all air carriers and terminal operators to manage the flow of returning traffic and minimize disruption. The Authority assures the public that its Crisis Management Team continues to monitor all airport systems, runways, and communication networks 24/7 to maintain seamless and safe air travel across the nation.
