The Philippine Stock Exchange, Inc. (PSE) joined the global campaign for investor education and protection by participating in the annual “Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy” program, an initiative led by the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) in support of the International Organization of Securities Commissions’ (IOSCO) World Investor Week.
PSE President and CEO Ramon S. Monzon underscored the critical link between education and market integrity during the event.
“Investor education and protection go hand in hand,” said Mr. Monzon. “The PSE has adopted investor education as a key strategy to enhance investor protection, promote investor confidence, enable investors to understand and manage risk, and reduce investors’ vulnerability to fraudulent schemes. Investor protection plays a crucial role in contributing to market growth.”
Mr. Monzon highlighted the PSE’s existing and new resources designed to empower current and prospective investors:
PSE Academy (www.pseacademy.com.ph): This online stock market learning portal offers comprehensive materials ranging from the basics of stock investing to intermediate and advanced topics. Future enhancements will include educational videos and a stock trading game to simulate real-life trading experiences.
New PSE Academy Facebook Community: Launched during the program, this new social media community will complement the PSE’s existing accounts, providing learning materials, weekly postings, market updates, and a platform for knowledge sharing on relevant stock market topics.
In a move to foster a long-term investor mindset, Mr. Monzon also announced the PSE’s push to integrate financial education at the academic level.
“The need to cultivate an investor mindset among the youth is paramount,” he stated. The PSE has reached out to the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to propose the inclusion of a mandatory course on personal finance and investing for students.
The PSE’s participation in this global event reinforces its commitment to building a more informed, protected, and confident investing public, which is vital for the sustained growth and maturity of the Philippine capital market.
