The Hong Kong Airport Authority (HKIA) confirms that a serious runway excursion incident occurred today at approximately 15:30 HKT, involving a Boeing 747-481(BDSF) cargo aircraft, registration TC-ACF. The aircraft, operated by Cargo AirACT on an Emirates SkyCargo flight (EK9788) from Dubai (DWC), skidded off the runway upon landing at Hong Kong International Airport.
Immediate deployment of airport emergency services confirmed that the aircraft, a dedicated freighter, came to rest on the grass adjacent to the paved surface. All four crew members onboard were evacuated safely and uninjured.
However, it is with profound regret that the Airport Authority confirms two fatalities on the ground. The deceased were ground services personnel who were inside a stationary service vehicle near the runway at the time of the excursion. The Airport Authority extends its deepest and heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues affected by this tragic loss.
The affected runway has been immediately closed to facilitate a thorough investigation, initial evidence preservation, and complex recovery operations. The HKIA is fully cooperating with the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department (CAD) and the Air Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) to determine the cause of the incident.
Significant flight delays and diversions are anticipated throughout the evening and into tomorrow morning. Passengers and shippers are strongly advised to check the status of their flights directly with their respective airlines. Further updates regarding the runway’s operational status will be provided as soon as they become available.
