President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday announced a substantial government commitment to significantly boost the capabilities of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) through major investments in new vessels, aircraft, equipment, and logistical support. The announcement was the centerpiece of the celebration of the PCG’s 124th founding anniversary held at the PCG headquarters in Port Area, Manila.
The President assured the PCG of the government’s solid support, commending the agency for its dedication and courage in protecting the Filipino people, particularly during times of national calamity and in safeguarding the country’s maritime domain.
“We will keep investing in new vessels, in aircraft, command posts, and communication systems,” President Marcos stated. “We will improve training, facilities, and logistics to provide every PCG personnel a sense of dignity in fulfilling their roles.”
Beyond increasing the PCG’s operational fleet, the Chief Executive unveiled plans to construct several new, crucial facilities designed to prioritize the welfare of PCG personnel and enhance specialized training.
These planned facilities include:
The PCG General Hospital.
The Maritime Law Enforcement Training Center in Misibis.
The First Responder and Nursing Service Facility.
“We plan to construct these facilities to ensure that your welfare, whether at sea or on land, remains a priority,” the President added.
President Marcos also highlighted the critical role the PCG plays in restoring public trust and demonstrating diligent governance. He commended the agency for exemplifying dedication to serving the people, which he views as essential to strengthening public confidence in government institutions.
“I know that these are difficult times that we live in. Our people’s trust in government has been shaken; we cannot deny it,” the President said. “But I am certain that trust can be regained if we remain transparent and true to our mission.”
He concluded by reinforcing the PCG’s role as the nation’s frontline defender on the water, stating: “Whenever our people see you during rescue missions or in your day-to-day patrols, they will see that the government is still working diligently and is worthy of their trust. Each time you sail, you remind the world that the Philippines will always protect what is ours.”
