CAAP praises PAL’s Cebu-Calbayog route for boosting Eastern Visayas economy

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) today confirmed the successful launch of Philippine Airlines’ (PAL) new air service connecting Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) and Calbayog Airport (CYG), marking a significant step in the expansion of regional air travel across the Philippines.

The inaugural flight from Cebu landed at Calbayog Airport at 8:42 a.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025. This critical new route will operate four times a week, providing consistent service every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

This initiative is a direct response to the directives of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez to leverage aviation infrastructure for accelerated regional development and mobility, particularly across the Eastern Visayas region.

CAAP Director General, Retired Lt. Gen. Raul Del Rosario, highlighted the route’s strategic value for local communities and commerce.

“By strengthening air links, we make it easier for people to travel for business, leisure, and family visits, while boosting tourism and local development,” said Del Rosario.

The milestone demonstrates CAAP’s ongoing commitment to supporting airline expansion into underserved regions, paving the way for stronger regional growth and improved mobility throughout the archipelago.
