DMW Sec. Hans Leo Cacdac engages Filipino community in Austria, pledges increased support for OFWs

The Filipino community in Austria extended a warm welcome to Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac for a special “Kumustahan with Sec Hans” dialogue held in Vienna. The event brought together overseas Filipinos, community leaders, and migrant advocates for an open and engaging discussion focused on the well-being and concerns of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

During the session, community members shared personal stories, discussed challenges they face, and offered constructive ideas on how government programs and services can be further improved to better serve OFWs and their families.

In response, Secretary Cacdac provided a comprehensive update on the DMW’s major initiatives. These include ongoing digitalization efforts to streamline services, the expansion of OFW Hospital services, the rollout of the AKSYON Fund for OFWs in distress, enhanced reintegration programs for returning workers, and active bilateral labor discussions with host countries, including Austria. All these efforts are strategically aimed at strengthening workers’ rights, improving employment conditions, and expanding opportunities for skilled Filipino professionals abroad.

Secretary Cacdac emphasized that the DMW’s direction is a direct reflection of the administration’s mandate. “President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s constant instruction is to make sure that every OFW feels the true concern and protection of our government. So whenever I have the opportunity to talk to our countrymen, I make sure to hear your stories firsthand,” said Secretary Cacdac.

He added that direct engagement is a key motivator for the department. “Hearing directly from our kababayans inspires us to serve better,” Secretary Cacdac noted. “Every story shared reminds us why we do what we do, to make sure no OFW feels left behind.”

The “Kumustahan” concluded on a positive note, underscoring a message of unity and hope. The event emphasized the critical importance of maintaining the Filipino spirit across borders through a shared purpose of care and connection.
