A high-level delegation from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) successfully concluded a critical leg of its European outreach and monitoring mission in Slovakia, highlighted by a heartfelt meeting with Filipino employees at a leading food processing plant. The visit, led by Undersecretary Jainal Rasul, showcased the exceptional resilience and enduring solidarity of Filipino migrant workers and reaffirmed the Philippine government’s unwavering commitment to their protection and welfare.
The DMW mission was specifically designed to evaluate the working and living conditions of Overseas Filipinos (OFs), listen directly to their experiences, and ensure their rights and contractual provisions are being strictly upheld by foreign employers.
Undersecretary Rasul lauded the positive environment reported by the workers, stating, “The stories of optimism and success we witnessed today are deeply encouraging. Our OFWs are not just exceptional professionals; they are cultural ambassadors who bring positive change to their host communities. The DMW is committed to ensuring every Filipino worker is fully supported, empowered, and protected throughout their journey overseas.”
Employer Praise and Community Building
Filipino workers received high praise from their Slovak employers for their adaptability, dedication, and remarkable ability to foster harmony in the workplace. The employers noted that the Filipino community consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic and a collaborative spirit that significantly boosts productivity and morale.
Sharing his positive experience was Marvin Ayaso, who recently completed a contract in Hungary before relocating to Slovakia. Ayaso highlighted the excellent provisions made by the company: “We are doing exceptionally well here. We have free food and accommodation, and the company supports our cultural presentations. During events like ‘breakfast for all,’ we proudly feature Filipino foods, sharing our culture with everyone.”
Ayaso’s inspiring story of courage and commitment to building a better future for his family was recently featured in the local Slovak magazine, Ujno, further illustrating the positive impact Filipinos are making on their local community.
The DMW emphasized that the European outreach remains a key priority to proactively monitor working standards and continue facilitating strong, fair partnerships with foreign employers who prioritize the well-being and professional growth of Filipino talent.
