Pres. Marcos Jr. departs for APEC in South Korea, pushes for sustainable growth, and stronger regional investment

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. departed today for Gyeongju, Republic of Korea (ROK), to attend the 32nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting, emphasizing the necessity of regional stability and digital transformation to secure the welfare and opportunities of all Filipinos.

The four-day visit, made upon the invitation of ROK President Lee Jae Myung, comes at a crucial time. President Marcos noted the region’s economic gravity, accounting for nearly 46 percent of global trade and 61 percent of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“Given these high stakes, this gathering is imperative,” the President stated during his departure ceremony. “We convene at a critical juncture, defined by evolving geopolitical landscapes, supply chain disruptions, threats of climate change, and the urgent need for equitable and inclusive growth.”

Aligned with this year’s APEC theme, “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect. Innovate. Prosper,” the Philippines is committed to accelerating physical and digital connectivity, driving digital transformation for national competitiveness, and ensuring stable prosperity for all.

President Marcos outlined the country’s focus on actionable areas that align with the long-term vision outlined in AmBisyon 2040. These include:

  • Guaranteeing equitable access to digital services and financial inclusion in underserved rural areas.
  • Advancing seamless movement of goods and people through investment facilitation.
  • Promoting supply chain resiliency amidst global shocks.
  • Enhancing digital literacy and skills development, particularly for MSMEs and women.

The President is scheduled to address the APEC CEO Summit, where he will showcase the Philippines’ commitment to fostering economic partnerships and a favorable business climate. “Among others, we will highlight how we are pursuing digital transformation as a core pillar of our development, fully recognizing the potential of new technologies to unlock a more prosperous and resilient future,” he said.

On the sidelines, President Marcos is slated to meet with South Korean business leaders to deepen trade and attract investments. He delivered a direct message to the international community: “The Philippines is not merely ready. We are a reliable, forward-looking partner in the Asia-Pacific. Invest in the Filipino.”

Following a successful participation in the 47th ASEAN Summit, the Chief Executive will also lobby for stronger collaboration with regional partners. As the Chair of ASEAN in 2026, he stressed that “Real growth and lasting prosperity are achievable when we break down barriers, share knowledge, and collaborate across sectors, industries, and communities.”

Finally, the President expressed his anticipation for meeting the Filipino community in Busan to acknowledge their meaningful contributions to the ROK’s socio-economic growth and further strengthen enduring people-to-people ties.
