DOT unveils ‘10,000 Plates,’ an exhibition celebrating the artistry and heritage of Filipino cuisine

The Department of Tourism (DOT) announced the launch of “10,000 Plates,” an immersive exhibition celebrating the richness, diversity, and artistry of Filipino cuisine. The unveiling took place on Thursday during the official ceremony for the MICHELIN Guide Manila and Environs | Cebu 2026, marking a significant moment for Filipino gastronomy on the global stage.

The “10,000 Plates” installation draws conceptual inspiration from Filipino artist Jim Zarate Torres’ “10,000 Circles.” It visually symbolizes the circular and interconnected flow of heritage and innovation that defines Filipino food culture.

At the heart of the exhibit lies the hapag, a central communal table that embodies the quintessential Filipino spirit of salo-salo. This feature serves as a powerful reminder that in the Philippines, food is deeply rooted in connection, community, and shared culture, extending far beyond flavor alone.

The exhibition is also a world-class showcase of Filipino design and craftsmanship. It features stunning furniture created by renowned talents, including Kenneth Cobonpue, Jed Yabut, Zarate Manila, and Jude Tiotuico of Industria. Complementing these pieces are food art displays by Lakbay Museo, artwork inspired by local tablescapes from Gerardo Jimenez, and cultural artifacts provided by the Intramuros Administration, all reflecting a potent synergy of heritage, design, and sustainability.

The DOT extends its sincere gratitude to its valued partners and sponsors—Hotel Okura Manila, NUSTAR Resort and Casino, Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan, and Philippine Airlines—for their generous support of the Michelin Guide Influencer Trip.
