PPA PMO Agusan activates Typhoon Uwan response: Focus on passenger safety and food aid

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Port Management Office (PMO) Agusan, under the leadership of Acting Port Manager Atty. Kahlil L. Lamigo rapidly convened a comprehensive emergency preparedness meeting today to safeguard port users, stranded passengers, vessels, and cargo ahead of the anticipated arrival of Typhoon Uwan.

The preparatory efforts prioritize the immediate safety and welfare of all individuals currently staying at Nasipit Port.

The critical coordination meeting brought together essential partners, including shipping lines, Partner Maritime, and Law Enforcement Agencies, the LGU Nasipit, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), and officials of Barangay Talisay. The multi-agency effort focused on establishing clear and actionable protocols for disaster response.

Immediate Safety Measures

Key measures finalized during the discussion centered on direct support for stranded passengers:

Orderly Evacuation: The PPA confirmed the immediate and orderly transfer of stranded passengers from the port area to the designated secure evacuation facility at the Barangay Talisay Gymnasium.

Food and Welfare: In coordination with the DSWD Field Office Caraga, the distribution of Ready-to-Eat Food (RTEF) packs was set in motion to ensure the immediate nutritional and physical needs of the evacuees are met during their temporary stay.

Atty. Lamigo emphasized the organization’s commitment to security: “Our continuous coordination ensures the smooth flow of port operations while we simultaneously maintain a high state of readiness to promptly respond to any incident. The safety, security, and welfare of all passengers, port users, cargo, and vessels is our highest priority.”

The PPA PMO Agusan will continue to monitor the weather situation closely and maintain continuous coordination with all partner agencies to ensure maximum safety throughout the duration of Typhoon Uwan.
