DTI Sec. Roque strengthens consumer protection in Cebu ahead of holidays

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Cris A. Roque spearheaded a series of supermarket visits in Cebu this week, underscoring the agency’s commitment to continuous monitoring of prices and the availability of Basic Necessities and Prime Commodities (BNPCs). This proactive initiative is designed to ensure fair pricing, stable supply, and robust consumer protection for Cebuanos leading up to the critical holiday season.

Secretary Roque’s visits were part of the DTI’s nationwide effort to verify compliance with the existing Suggested Retail Price (SRP) matrix and to assess the stock levels of essential goods. The DTI aims to deter profiteering, hoarding, and any unfair trade practices that could burden consumers during this peak demand period.

“As the holiday season approaches, we anticipate an increase in consumer spending, making our price monitoring more crucial than ever,” said Secretary Roque. “Our presence on the ground ensures that retailers adhere to mandated price ceilings and that our citizens have access to adequate supplies of high-quality goods at reasonable prices. The DTI is firmly committed to safeguarding the welfare of every Filipino consumer.”
