Business supports the appointment of new BIR Commissioner Mendoza

The Partnership with Multi-Sectoral Group (PMSG), a platform established under a Memorandum of Agreement with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), welcomed the appointment of Finance Undersecretary Charlito Martin R. Mendoza as new BIR Commissioner.

The group cited Commissioner Mendoza for his distinguished record of public service, marked by extensive experience in tax administration, fiscal oversight, and organizational leadership. His expertise comes at a critical time for sustaining the country’s economic momentum.

“We look forward to his programs toward a more efficient, transparent, and trusted BIR,” according to the joint statement.

At the same time, PMSG extends its appreciation to former Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui Jr. for his leadership and enforcement, and openness in collaborating with the business sector to promote a more business-friendly tax environment during his tenure. “Under his administration, the BIR advanced the agency’s digitalization and strengthened taxpayer services, supporting improvements in tax administration,” the group said.

With the new Commissioner, PMSG believes that a strong, modern, and responsive BIR is vital to a stable and competitive business environment. “We look forward to continuing this partnership with Commissioner Mendoza at the helm, and deepen structured dialogue, align policies, and accelerate digital transformation. We are confident that under his leadership, the BIR will further simplify compliance, strengthen taxpayer education, and promote voluntary compliance, ultimately supporting ease of doing business,” said PMSG.

PMSG members include Alliance of Tech Innovators for the Nation, Association of Certified Public Accountants in Commerce and Industry,  Association of Certified Public Accountants in Public Practice, Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc.,

Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines, Joint Foreign Chambers of the Philippines,  Makati Business Club, Management Association of the Philippines, Philippine Chamber of Commerce And Industry,  Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc., and Tax Management Association of the Philippines.

In a separate statement, the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Foundation Inc. (SEIPI) said the experience of BIR Commissioner Mendoza at the Bureau of Customs and Department of Finance has equipped him to succeed in his new role.

“Your leadership comes at a pivotal time for our nation’s continued pursuit of fiscal improvements. We are confident that under your guidance, the BIR will uphold transparency, efficiency, and fairness in tax administration—building greater trust between the government and the Filipino people,” said SEIPI.

SEIPI, which groups the country’s electronics and semiconductor industries, vowed its full support to Commissioner Mendoza toward a more progressive and inclusive tax system that empowers national growth.
