The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) have discussed areas of collaboration to be covered under the Denmark’s Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) – a strategic partnership that will allow for development funding and technical cooperation for maritime subsectors and other agreed joint initiatives
MARINA Administrator Sonia Malaluan and DMA Head of Maritime Policy and International Affairs Director Martin Riis Hansen, met at the Central Office in Port Area, Manila on 19 November 2025 to identify possible areas of collaboration in the maritime sector.
Initially, the areas of collaboration which the Danish counterparts can provide include technical assistance, particularly in green shipping, ship safety, seafarers’ training and digitalization.
Administrator Malaluan highlighted that seafaring certification in the Philippines is currently on advanced stage. The Administrator also expressed her interest on enhancing ship safety for domestic ferries, as well as initiatives related to maritime digitalization and decarbonization of ships.
