The Department of Tourism (DOT) today advised all domestic and international tourists in the Philippines, or those planning travel to and from the country, to take necessary precautions and remain updated on the evolving situation regarding flight disruptions. These disruptions stem from a global Airbus technical advisory requiring mandatory software updates for certain A320 family aircraft, which has impacted the operations of several airlines, including Philippine carriers.
In close coordination with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), airport authorities, and the tourism sector, the DOT is issuing the following essential guidance to ensure the safety, comfort, and welfare of all travelers:
-
Monitor Official Airline Channels: Tourists are strongly encouraged to monitor the official websites, mobile apps, and customer service channels of their respective airlines (e.g., Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, AirAsia, etc.) for verified, real-time updates on flight statuses, rebooking procedures, and any available rerouting options.
-
Avoid Misinformation: Travelers should refrain from relying on unverified social media posts to prevent confusion and misinformation.
-
Allow Sufficient Lead Time: Given the evolving situation and potential for delays, travelers are advised to allot sufficient lead time by arriving at the airport at least four hours before international flights or three hours before domestic departures, unless advised otherwise by their airline.
-
Do Not Proceed to the Airport if Cancelled: Tourists whose flights have been confirmed as cancelled should not proceed to the airport unless they have been explicitly instructed to do so by their airline for rebooking or other services.
-
Flexible Options: Affected airlines are offering flexible options such as free rebooking, refunds, or conversion of tickets to travel funds for passengers impacted by the cancellations. Travelers are advised to coordinate directly with their airline to avail of these options.
