MDPPA strengthens call for consumer vigilance with ‘No to Counterfeit’ campaign

The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) is doubling down on its efforts to fight the proliferation of counterfeit parts in the country to protect growth in the domestic industry.

MDPPA Vice President Engr. Erwin Estrada said that ensuring regulatory compliance, preventing counterfeiting, or streamlining the supply chain, the methods use to identify products form the very foundation of their success.

“In today’s fast-paced market, the ability to identify products accurately and efficiently is no longer just a technical requirement, but a competitive necessity,” said Estrada.

In partnership with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), MDPPA recently launched the “No to Counterfeit” campaign, an initiative aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of counterfeit motorcycle parts.

IPOPHL’s IP Enforcement Office Supervising Director, Atty. Christine Pangilinan-Canlapan, recognized the continued accessibility of counterfeit motorcycle parts and accessories in the market, whether online or offline.

She assured MDPPA’s members of IPOPHL’s continued support by capacitating the government law enforcement agents with technical knowledge that only brand owners can provide to effectively fulfill their duties.

Beyond the technical knowledge, the “No to Counterfeit” campaign, the broader goal is to empower riders, mechanics, and resellers to make informed choices and to report counterfeit activity.

This directly supports MDPPA’s valued Tropang MAALAM advocacy, reminding riders that fake products aren’t just low quality, they’re dangerous. By rejecting counterfeit parts, we empower every rider to be a maalam (wise) consumer, choosing safety, certified quality and non-negotiable protection.

Counterfeit parts put riders and businesses at risk, leading to failures that can lead to injury or death. Choosing genuine components ensures safety, reliable performance, and long-term savings. Through its ‘No to Counterfeit’ campaign, MDPPA urges riders to stay vigilant and report suspicious sellers or fake parts, helping build a safer, more responsible motorcycle industry for all.

DPPA) is the country’s most relevant association proactive to the needs of stakeholders in the country’s motorcycle industry. MDPPA members include leading motorcycle manufacturers: Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, and TVS. Among the many goals of MDPPA is addressing the global industry gaps in road safety, regulation compliance, environmental protection, technology, and innovation through active consultation, representation, and communication with various stakeholders.

One of the most recent initiatives of MDPPA is the Tropang MAALAM (Tropang Modelo, Alerto, Aktibo, Ligtas, Aalalay, at Matalino) campaign, which aims to promote rider safety through education, awareness, and training.
