Repower Energy inaugurates 18.2 MW Pulangi hydropower plant, boosting Mindanao’s clean energy supply

Repower Energy Development Corporation (REDC), through its wholly owned subsidiary Cabanglasan Hydropower Corporation, officially announced the inauguration of the 18.2 MW Pulangi Hydropower Plant. Located at the border of the City of Valencia and San Fernando in Bukidnon, the commissioning marks a significant milestone in strengthening Mindanao’s renewable energy infrastructure.

The ceremony was graced by high-level representatives from government, regulatory bodies, and REDC’s key partners. Notable attendees included Hon. DOE Secretary Sharon Garin (represented), Hon. PSALM President and CEO Dennis Dela Serna, REDC President Eric Roxas, Pure Energy Chairman and CEO Dexter Tiu, along with REDC and Tokai executives.

The Pulangi facility operates as a run-of-river hydropower plant, utilizing the natural flow of the Pulangi River to generate clean energy without the need for large-scale impoundment dams. It is projected to generate an average of 130 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean electricity annually, contributing significantly to the region’s energy stability and sustainability goals.

The Department of Energy has confirmed that REDC’s Pulangi Hydropower Plant is among the initial power plants eligible for the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) new Feed-in Tariff Round 4 (FIT-4). This important regulatory qualification validates the project’s long-term economic viability, with the preliminary rate currently set at Php 6.38 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

Eric Y. Roxas, President of REDC, highlighted the importance of the project in the national energy landscape. “The commissioning of the Pulangi Hydropower Plant underscores our commitment to creating reliable, sustainable, and community-aligned energy projects,” said Mr. Roxas. “Hydropower continues to play a vital role in securing the country’s clean energy future, and we are proud to help strengthen Mindanao’s renewable energy infrastructure with this state-of-the-art facility.”
