DMW and SEC strengthen partnership, empowering OFW entrepreneurs through Likhang global competition

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reaffirmed their crucial strategic partnership in promoting successful entrepreneurship among Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) during an institutional visit and learning tour for the finalists of the Likhang Global Business Plan Competition.

The competition, organized by the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO), hosted 38 finalists who gathered for a day of essential learning and exposure.

DMW Assistant Secretary for Reintegration, Atty. Francis Ron De Guzman underscored the importance of the collaboration, stating, “This partnership with the Commission is crucial in promoting an inclusive reintegration program for our OFWs through viable business initiatives.”

Welcoming the finalists from various host countries, SEC Commissioner Atty. Karlo S. Bello highlighted the significant contributions of OFWs to national development. He commended the DMW for the success of the Likhang Global program, praising it for “transforming big business ideas into something real, concrete, and within reach.” The SEC has consistently recognized the DMW as a top partner in OFW investment education and capital market development.

The learning tour was designed to equip the OFW entrepreneurs with practical knowledge. At the SEC head office in Makati City, the finalists attended lectures covering:

  • Funding and Financial Management

  • Business Opportunities

  • Anti-Scam Awareness

Following the lectures, the group proceeded to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) in Bonifacio Global City for an educational tour focused on the stock market and investments.

Earlier in the day, the finalists visited the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) One Town, One Product (OTOP) Hub in Makati City. Here, they explored a diverse range of regional products and learned about the government’s support programs tailored for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

This joint initiative between the DMW and the SEC is a testament to the government’s commitment to providing sustainable reintegration pathways, ensuring that OFWs can transition from being valued global workers to successful local entrepreneurs.
