The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), in collaboration with the Inter-Agency Committee for the Celebration of the Month of Overseas Filipinos (IAC-MOF), successfully convened the National Forum on Migration today at the DMW Makati Office.
Held in observance of International Migrants Day, the forum centered on the theme “Empowering Overseas Filipinos Towards Sustainable Reintegration.” The event drew approximately 300 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families, serving as a cornerstone of the 2025 Month of Overseas Filipinos celebrations.
DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, who headlined the event, redefined the government’s approach to the migration cycle. He emphasized that reintegration should not be viewed merely as an “end stage” but as a continuous process beginning long before a worker even leaves the country.
“Reintegration is an ongoing, human-centered journey,” Secretary Cacdac stated. “Our goal is to create sustainable pathways for our returning heroes through skills recognition, livelihood support, and psychosocial services, ensuring they are protected at every step of their journey.”
The forum aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to bolster livelihood opportunities and migrant welfare. It served as a vital platform for “whole-of-government” and “whole-of-society” collaboration, featuring key representatives from:
- Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO)
- Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA)
- International Organization for Migration (IOM)
- Philippine Migrants Rights Watch (PMRW)
- National Reintegration Network (NRN) partners
The event transcended policy discussions by showcasing the tangible entrepreneurial success of former OFWs. Attendees heard inspiring stories from:
- Ms. Angie Mar A. Rosario: Owner of BigBite Cookziellas and LIKHAng Kababaihan NCR winner.
- Mr. Emilio Baja: Founder of Full Phils.
To provide immediate, actionable support, the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) hosted a Partners Fair. Organizations including OWWA, LandBank, SSS, PhilHealth, and GCash established booths to offer on-site assistance regarding financial literacy, social security, and employment matching.
By highlighting these success stories and providing direct access to services, the DMW reaffirms its dedication to upholding the dignity and rights of migrant workers while recognizing their immense contributions to Philippine national development.
