The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) completed a comprehensive renewal security audit at the Davao International Container Terminal (DICT) recently. This initiative is part of a broader national strategy to ensure that the country’s critical trade hubs maintain the highest standards of maritime safety and security.
As a premier regional trade gateway, DICT plays a pivotal role in the Philippines’ economy, managing large-scale cargo handling, container storage, and international import-export logistics.
The primary objective of the two-day audit was to verify that DICT’s security systems and equipment meet the stringent requirements for the renewal of the Statement of Compliance of a Port Facility (SoCPF).
The process began with an entry briefing led by OTS Maritime Security Auditors Myra Cristobal and Mac Romer Vilbar. They collaborated with DICT management to align on the audit’s scope and review essential documentation, ensuring a transparent and thorough evaluation.
During the audit, the OTS team executed several verification protocols, including:
Physical Walkthroughs: Detailed checks of the terminal’s security infrastructure and equipment.
Personnel Interviews: Direct engagement with DICT employees to evaluate their security awareness and operational readiness.
Systems Review: Assessment of environmental compliance and security measures designed to protect assets and personnel.
This renewal audit aligns with the directives of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to fortify the nation’s maritime borders. By identifying and mitigating risks such as terrorism, theft, and cyber-attacks, the OTS ensures that Philippine ports remain resilient against modern threats.
“Through these regular audits, we maintain a high level of security readiness,” the OTS stated. “Ensuring smooth and secure port operations is essential for the continued growth of our shipping industry and the safety of the commuting public.”
The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) is the single authority responsible for the security of the transportation systems of the Philippines, including civil aviation, maritime, land transportation, and rail systems.
